A popular saying goes: “you’re only as good as the company you keep,” and JUST Lincolnshire keeps good company. We work with a number of different groups and organisations – nationally and locally – so we can continue to promote equality, diversity and anti-discrimination. A couple of our partners have a couple of things to say about what they do and why:

Boston College
Advancing equality, diversity and inclusion so that it is central to our college culture is one of our key strategic aims. It will help fulfil our vision: “To be a brilliant college that transforms people’s lives and makes an outstanding contribution to the economic, social and cultural life of Lincolnshire.” We also recognise our duties under the Equality Act and other relevant legislation. This includes the Public Sector General Equality Duty which requires public bodies such as ourselves, to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups.
  • Foster good relations between people from different groups. Boston College and JUST Lincolnshire regularly partner together, offering courses for businesses working with the college for training in equality and diversity. We also commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day in January, working with students to promote understanding on the events of over 70 years ago.

LGBT LINCS
Where did you turn this Christmas if a member of your family said: “I’m gay”? We can support you as you come to terms with new terminology and differing perspectives of what it means to be family with a child who identifies as either lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. We, as LGBT Lincs, can walk alongside you, link you to a variety of supportive agencies and be a listening ear. Over the past year we have shared with individual parents over coffee, hosted gatherings of parents from across Lincolnshire, led workshops and discussions at a national conference hosted by the Street Angels and at meetings at the Manchester-based LGBT Foundation, and are available to facilitate discussions in the context of faith and how that affects issues relating to LGBT+, such as same-sex marriage. We have also attended Pride in London and walked with thousands along the streets of our capital saying that we are proud of our children, no matter what. We firmly believe that you can support your child unconditionally. We have spoken at workshops and been available to those attending the conference so that they could speak privately of their own journey with their child, of whatever age. So why not begin by looking at our website www.lincsparentslgbt.org.uk where you can contact us.

Hill Holt Wood
So you might ask, “What is Hill Holt Wood?” Well, Hill Holt Wood is many things: It is a woodland – open to the public every day. It is a business – a social enterprise with charitable status. It is a concept – a way of working with the local community to create a better environment, provide employment and reach out to those in need. Hill Holt Wood operates in the community to provide a wide range of different services. From education and training to 14-19-year-olds, adult education courses in the woodland, countryside and forestry management to the provision of “green space” at our other sites for those suffering from mental health issues. The Wood Hall, a magnificent building at the heart of the woodland, is also available for hire for weddings, parties, corporate events and social functions. Providing a social, economic and environmental return is at the heart of everything we do at Hill Holt Wood! To find out more please visit: www.hillholtwood.com

JUST Lincolnshire is always looking to partner with new groups or organisations to spread our message, If your organisation is promoting the similar values and would be interested in working with JUST Lincolnshire please contact us via the website.
