We held our Celebration Event during Hate Crime Awareness Week at the new Bomber Command Centre overlooking Lincoln. We wanted to celebrate our JUST Lincolnshire Ambassadors and all the work they do to support us in raising awareness of Hate Crime, equality, human rights and inclusion across the county.
Before it got too dark the delegates had time to explore the lovely site high on the hill overlooking Lincoln or enjoy a coffee on the balcony and meet other delegates.
The formal part of the evening began at 6pm, Wes thanked everyone for attending and outlined the agenda for the evening.
Firstly, we celebrated the work that JUST Lincolnshire had been involved in over the past year and then went on to talk about the NCS (National Citizens Service) work which took place in July / August in partnership with the EBP (Education Business Partnership). (For more details see separate story) The young people had been very impressive and as a result of their presentation were invited to speak at an employer’s event in West Lindsey on how mental health affects young people and by the Police to sit on their Citizens panel.
Six of these young people attended the Celebration event and we took the opportunity to show the video that was made by Electric Egg showing their journey over the 2 weeks we hosted them. This was well received by the audience, it gave a real flavour of the hard work they had put in. We then invited them to address the delegates, so they could tell them their experience of their work.
An opportunity was also provided to reflect on our thoughts and responses to issues raised as a result of Hate Crime Awareness Week.
Over the last year we have offered 2 days Ambassadors training, the first in March with approximately 15 participants and the second in September with 12 participants, so this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate their success and present them with their certificates. Well done everyone!
Following the formal part of the proceedings we had a buffet provided by Bomber Command, where all delegates had time to network.
A great evening was had by all.
